Hi, I’m from Wheaton, Illinois, and I’m attending the University of Illinois at Chicago this upcoming fall, and I want to know the exact directions to get there by Metra. I’ve never ridden on it before, and I’m not exactly sure how to get there. I’ve looked up directions, but I am still having some issues.
Any help at all would earn ten points and a lot of appreciation from yours truly. Thank you!

    You could do this:,+Chicago,+IL+60607+(University+of+Illinois+at+Chicago:+Main+Library)&hl=en&geocode=%3BCfcP8_lRHV50FW7nfgId9YzG-iGMYLAAQv6yoQ&mra=pe&mrcr=0&dirflg=r&date=4%2F6&time=4:13pm&ttype=dep&noexp=0&noal=0&sort=&tline=&sll=41.867004,-87.654934&sspn=0.046532,0.076561&ie=UTF8&z=11&start=0

Or instead of bus you could take the El, or just walk the leg that it’s telling you to take the bus for.

I got to the page I linked to by filling in “Wheaton” and “University of Illinois at Chicago” in the blanks on this page:
…but then I had to choose from several matches found for “University of Illinois at Chicago”.

And lastly, good for you for wanting to take public transportation :)

There are 2 suggested routes. Both start out with the METRA Union Pacific West line.

One, for $4.00 has you exit at Kedzie AV METRA station and then take a CTA bus #52 to The CTA blueline take that east to Racine…walk south to UIC.

On the other route, for $4.15 you will exit METRA at the Ogilvie Transportation Center, downtown, then a CTA #125 bus from Madison & Clinton south to Van Buren, then another CTA bus #126 Racine. Exit and walk south to UIC. See for yourself below:

I ride the Union Pacific (UP) West in from Glen Ellyn all the time.

Get on at the Wheaton or College Avenue station. If you’re driving to the station consider leasing a space - otherwise it is $1.50/day to park at College Ave. Take the UP West all the way to Olgilvie.

See the first link for Metra schedules and info for the UP West Line.

It is a little of a walk to UIC but not a bad one, but it will take a good 30-45 minutes. You could take a bus from Olgilvie, bus 60 takes you to Harrison Street and bus 38 to Harrison. Anything south of those will require that you take a second bus.

At non-rush hour times you can bring a standard bike onto Metra trains, see the second link for bike info, and the schedule bebialso indicate how many bikes are allowed and at what times.

I have a 26″ folding bike which is allowed at all times - it ran me $500 but it might pay for itself to save you on CTA fees and the cost to park at the train station.

Update: yes there is a Metra stop at Kedzie but there are only a few trains that stop there - if it works out great but I’ll be surprised if it does.
