There is no such thing as a “free puppy”. You still need to get food, toys, dishes, shots, license, vet care, etc. etc. etc.
The cost of the dog is the least of your expenses.

I would be wary of any one who “gives away:” free puppies. Most people charge a small fee to help alleviate the medical costs and to make sure the pup doesn’t go to unloving home.
If you want a *cheap* dog, go to the humane society or rescue shelter, they usually charge less than $100 for the dog (Sometimes as low as $45) plus the cost of neutering and licensing which is money you’d have to spend anyways.
Also, remember that a dog is a living creature, in addition to the original cost you have to be prepared to buy it food, toys, dishes, leashes, pay it’s vet bills — both routine and emergency, and kenneling when you’re out of town. It’s a big financial responsibility that you need to be ready for.
