I’m thinking of moving to The Woodlands, Texas. What are the pros and cons of living near Houston? Not only because of the city, but also because of the weather. What are the pros and cons of them?

The Woodlands is a real nice area. The pros are if you like shopping the Galleria is close. Theres a lot of things to do since its houston, tons of interesting museums and such. Since you are going to The Woodlands, its north of Houston, so its not as humid as say Galveston. But I wouldn’t want to be that close to the coast. It’s usually very humid and hot, and extremely polluted area. I guess it depends on you personally, some love it there, some hate it. I guess you just have to accept the cons with the pros.

Cons: Houston is hot and humid for much of the year. Winters are quite mild with snow maybe once every 10 years. There are occasional hurricanes during the summer, and flooding can be common. Houston is ginormous sprawl wise. Suburbs extend in all directions. A car is required for getting around.
Pros: The Cost of Living in Houston is really low compared to other large cities in the US. (You might want to look at a Cost of Living caluclator. I think Houston is about 10% below the national average.) Houston is the center for the energy industry and has a very large, world-renowned medical center. Houston is a diverse city with museums, music venues, symphony, opera, etc. You can get delicious and authentic ethnic foods.
